David N. Allen
David N. Allen came to the University of Colorado in February 2002. As AVP he has responsibility for intellectual property (IP) and technology licensing matters across the three CU campuses. In the past six years TTO has received 1,269 invention disclosures, executed 205 exclusive licenses and options, secured $125M in licensing revenue and related fees, and spent $21M on operations. Over the last six years TTO has licensed CU intellectual property to 60 companies, 52 of which are still active with 48 having operations in Colorado. TTO has a staff of 20 and has two offices located at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. Prior to moving to Colorado, David was the AVP for Technology Partnerships at the Ohio State University. Before coming to Ohio State in 1997, Dr. Allen was AVP for Technology and Economic Development at Ohio University in Athens. Previous to Ohio University he was a Professor at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. During the 1981 to 1991 period he held positions first in the College of Liberal Arts and then in the Smeal College of Business Administration. While at Penn State he was a consultant to a seed venture capital firm. He earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington in Political Economy in 1980. His academic mentor and dissertation chair, Elinor Ostrom, was a co-recipient of the 2009 Nobel Prize for Economics.
