David N. Allen came to the University of Colorado in February 2002. As AVP he has responsibility for intellectual property (IP) and technology licensing matters across the three CU campuses. In the past six years TTO has received 1,269 invention disclosures, executed 205 exclusive licenses and options, secured $125M in licensing revenue and related fees, and spent $21M on operations. Over the last six years TTO has licensed CU intellectual property to 60 companies, 52 of which are still active with 48 having operations in Colorado. TTO has a staff of 20 and has two offices located at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. Prior to moving to Colorado, David was the AVP for Technology Partnerships at the Ohio State University. Before coming to Ohio State in 1997, Dr. Allen was AVP for Technology and Economic Development at Ohio University in Athens. Previous to Ohio University he was a Professor at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park. During the 1981 to 1991 period he held positions first in the College of Liberal Arts and then in the Smeal College of Business Administration. While at Penn State he was a consultant to a seed venture capital firm. He earned a Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington in Political Economy in 1980. His academic mentor and dissertation chair, Elinor Ostrom, was a co-recipient of the 2009 Nobel Prize for Economics.

Ms. Brown’s career spans over 30 years working in both the public and private sectors in Colorado. She recently formed DM Brown, LLC to provide consulting services to research institutions, the bioscience industry, and business associations. Ms. Brown served as the first Executive Director of the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA). CBSA initiatives resulted in over $30 million of new state-supported programs for early stage bioscience technologies and companies. She served in senior administrative positions for 17 years at the University of Colorado including, including Chief Planning Officer for the CU Health Sciences Center . Early in her career, Ms. Brown worked for the House Majority Office at the Colorado General Assembly for two years (1975-1977). From 1977 through 1984, she worked for the Governor of Colorado in three senior staff positions.

Dr. Duke is a biotechnology executive, inventor, biomedical researcher and serial entrepreneur with fifteen years of experience in building, financing, and managing start-up biotechnology companies based on inventions made in Colorado’s non-profit research institutions. He is currently Co-scientific Founder, President and CEO of ApopLogic Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Duke is a Co-scientific Founder and former CEO, President and Director of GlobeImmune, Inc. and was involved in the formation of Sierra Neuropharmaceuticals where he was an initial Director. These Colorado-based companies have raised more than $150 million in financing and have multiple products in phase 1 and 2 human clinical trials. In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, Dr. Duke has over twenty-five years of experience in cutting-edge biomedical research and is a tenured faculty member in the Departments of Medicine (Medical Oncology) and Immunology at the University of Colorado Denver. Dr. Duke has provided independent 3rd party life research analysis in the life sciences sector to Janus Capital and to venture capital firms.

Terry Opgenorth serves as COO for NeoTREX® the enterprise arm of Colorado State University's Cancer Supercluster. He joined CSU Ventures, Inc. in 2007 after retiring from Abbott Laboratories, North Chicago, IL. His last position at Abbott was as Divisional Vice President of Metabolic Disease Research, Antiviral Research and Target-Lead Discovery Research for Abbott's Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development division. At Abbott he championed a number of biotech collaborations, and led teams that advanced a number of drug candidates to clinical development status with atrasentan reaching NDA filing. Atrasentan, and others are in various stages of ongoing development at Abbott or other biopharma companies. He was a Research Fellow in Abbott's Volwiler Society. Terry is on the Board of Directors for Keystone Symposia, and serves on Scientific Advisory Boards for Keystone Symposia and Euroscreen, SA, and is a Section Editor for Current Opinions in Investigational Drugs. He is an author on 130 peer-reviewed publications, 9 book chapters or reviews, and an inventor on 3 patent applications. He holds a BA in Biology from Calvin College, and MS and PhD degrees in Physiology from University of Illinois-Urbana.

Kevin was a member of the group that developed the business plan and State Grant proposal which resulted in the creation of CID4. Prior to joining CID4, Kevin was Managing Director of Act Three Consulting, LLC. Act Three was formed in July 2007 to provide consulting services to management teams and their advisors during times of dramatic change. Prior to founding Act Three, Kevin spent nine years as President of Gambro, Inc., the US holding company for the publicly-traded, Swedish-based Gambro Group, until its acquisition by private equity investors in 2006. The US operations of Gambro included the manufacture and distribution of cardiovascular (CV), blood separation and renal dialysis products and the operation of US and international kidney dialysis centers. Before joining Gambro, Kevin was an audit partner in the Denver and New York offices of Ernst & Young, specializing in entrepreneurial services and led the formation of E&Y’s Denver Life Sciences Practice. Kevin graduated from Kansas State University in 1970 and worked in New York until his relocation to Colorado in 1988.

Ed Tauer has served as mayor of Aurora, Colorado since 2003 and is Chair of the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority. Mayor Tauer has a solid vision for Aurora. One that focuses on strong economic development and job creation, and ensuring Aurora is a full service city where one can grow up, raise a family and retire. As mayor, he has made it a priority to seek out opportunities to serve as a leader in regional cooperation and partnerships. He also has been involved in shaping the city’s water policies and strategic planning efforts. Mayor Tauer holds a master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University. He worked as a marketing and product development professional in the software and telecommunications industry for 15 years before becoming mayor.
